A 21-year-old Los Angeles man was charged in connection with the beating of a transgender woman on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the District Attorney’s Office said on Monday.
Nicol Shakhnazaryan pleaded not guilty to charges of battery with serious bodily injury, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and a special allegation of great bodily injury, prosecutors said.
He allegedly was among of a group of males who beat 22-year-old "Vivian" near a subway stop in the 6200 block of Hollywood Boulevard on May 31. Surveillance video of the attack shows one of the males running after the victim, kicking her to the ground, officials said.
At least two other males joined in the attack, kicking the victim repeatedly in the head and body.
She suffered a broken jaw, broken ribs, two fractured eye sockets and other injuries.
Prosecutors said there was no evidence the attack was motivated because the victim is a transgender woman.
Shakhnazaryan was arrested June 20, two days after police announced a $25,000 reward for information in the case.

If convicted, Shakhnazaryan faces up to eight years in state prison, prosecutors said.
