Man Critically Injured in Boat Crash Near Catalina Island

One man was critically injured and three others were in fair condition after the small fishing boat they were in ran aground early Sunday morning near Goat Harbor on Catalina Island.

Authorities responded to a radio call from the boaters around after the vessel struck rocks near a breakwater around 3:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The boat was traveling at a speed of about 25 miles per hour leading up to the crash.

Lifeguards used a boat to transport four men aboard. One person was in critical condition with injuries to his face and abdomen. The other three men were listed in fair condition.

The men, between 33 and 46 years old, told NBC4 that they know the area well but made a mistake when they ran into the rocks.
