A man suspected of trying to steal copper was electrocuted Friday night in South Los Angeles.
The fatality was reported about 7:25 p.m. in the 1600 block of East 25th Street, near Long Beach Avenue, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The victim was found dead at the scene, on ground level near some electrical equipment, Humphrey said.
The location is in an industrial area near the Metro Blue Line.
Authorities suspect the man broke into a 4.8-kilovolt customer station, described as electrical distribution equipment that would service a residence or small business, and was electrocuted while trying to steal copper, according to Christina Holland of the Department of Water and Power.
