A man died in the hospital Wednesday morning after he was shot in the chest while working at a marijuana collective in Sun Valley, police said.
The man in his mid-20s was shot in the 8200 block of Lankershim Boulevard about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, and police were searching for five males in connection to the shooting, said Sgt. Scott Kennedy of the Los Angeles Police Department Foothill Station.
The man was shot while he was at work at a marijuana collective, Kennedy said. Other reports suggested the man was at an illegal marijuana grow house, but police told NBC4 the man was at a collective.
Sgt. Smith of the LAPD Foothill Station said there may have been an illegal growhouse across the street from the site of the shooting, but he said police only know that the man worked at a "legal dispensary."
The man was rushed to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills to undergo surgery, where he died in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Kennedy said.
A trail of blood appeared to lead several hundred feet from the scene, and responding police said it was related to the shooting. They could not provide any details about the blood trail.
Two witnesses on the scene told reporters in Spanish that they had seen men go into the facility carrying baseball bats, and then heard gunfire. They said they had called police.
Additional details were not immediately available.
