33-Year-Old Man Booked on Suspicion of Sex Assault on Elderly Woman

A 33-year-old transient was booked on suspicion of sexually assaulting a disabled 87-year-old Garden Grove woman in her bed early Friday, police said.

Police were called at 1:36 a.m. to a home in the 8500 block of Lampson Ave. regarding a sexual assault in progress, Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney said.

The victim, who was unable to yell for help, was allegedly being assaulted by the suspect when her granddaughter was roused by noise in the bedroom and went to investigate, Whitney said.

"She ran over to assist and grabbed him by the arm, yanking on him and pulling on him, screaming for help," Whitney said. "That woke up the rest of the family and he started fighting with them and that spilled over into the backyard."

When officers arrived, the family was holding on to the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, Whitney said. The suspect is unknown to the family, he said.
