A man pointing what turned out to be a pellet/BB gun at police was shot dead in an officer-involved shooting that occurred near the Inglewood Police Department, a police lieutenant said Saturday.
Two police officers were driving in the area of the Inglewood Police Department at 11 p.m. Friday when "they encountered a suspect, who pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the officers," said Inglewood police Lt. Cardell Hurt.
Police say the BB gun was “designed to look like a .44 Super Magnum handgun.”
An officer-involved shooting occurred, Hurt said, and the suspect was struck by gunfire. No officers were injured.
County fire department paramedics dispatched to the location pronounced the suspect dead at the scene, he said.
"Video surveillance of the encounter has been maintained as evidence," he said. "The District Attorney's Officer-Involved Shooting roll- out team is conducting a parallel investigation."
