Man Shot at by Sheriff's Deputies Arrested After Attempted Ramming, Chase

A man was taken into custody following a deputy-involved shooting Sunday in Lomita, where no one was struck by gunfire.

It occurred in the vicinity of 246th Place and Pennsylvania Avenue at 2:10 a.m., Deputy Crystal Hernandez of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said.

The Sheriff's Information Bureau had no other information.

According to sources at the scene, the suspect crashed his vehicle twice during a pursuit with deputies on 246th Place between Pennsylvania Avenue and Cypress Street when a speeding vehicle crashed into sheriff's deputies at 246th and Pennsylvania.

They said gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and the deputies.

The suspect then sped off east on 246th Place where he slammed into a fence, hit a house and crashed through the backyard of a neighboring home where he struck a trailer and broke a water main. The suspect was treated at a hospital and then taken into custody.

Anyone with information was asked to call the sheriff's Internal Affairs Bureau at 323-890-5300.
