Man Shoots Son in Apparent Self-Defense: Deputies

A 26-year-old man was shot Wednesday night after allegedly fighting with his girlfriend and then lunging at his father with a knife, officials said.

Deputies responded to reports of a person who was shot in the 9600 block of Du Page Avenue in an unincorporated area of Whittier, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station.

When officers arrived, they found Stephen Turner Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso, authorities said.

Officials said Turner had allegedly been fighting with his girlfriend when he armed himself with a knife and threatened to kill her. Turner’s father then armed himself with a gun and tried to get his son to stop fighting, authorities said.

Turner allegedly lunged at his father with a knife and was shot in the chest, officials said. Authorities said the shooting appeared to be out of self-defense.

Turner’s father was found to be the legal owner of the gun and was not arrested. Turner was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, deputies said.

Turner was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition.
