Man Stabbed To Death Near Popular Restaurant in Malibu

A 23-year-old man from La Puente was stabbed to death in Malibu at the Los Angeles/Ventura county line in the parking lot of a popular restaurant in a fight between two car enthusiasts, authorities said Sunday.

Ontario resident Daniel Maldonado, 30, was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the alleged assault and was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail, said Sgt. Marta Bugarin of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

The group of car enthusiasts met in the parking lot of Neptune's Net, 42505 Pacific Coast Highway, after operating hours where Maldonado became involved in a dispute with the La Puente resident, over a previously unresolved issue, Bugarin said.

"The incident escalated into a physical fight, during which Maldonado used a knife to stab the victim several times," she said.

Witnesses called 911 a little after 10:55 p.m. Saturday and paramedics pronounced the 23-year-old man dead at the scene, she said.

At least 30 people were at the scene when firefighters with the Ventura County Fire Department arrived, according to sources at the scene.

Neptune's Net is a popular seafood restaurant that opened in the 1950s and has been featured in the movies, "Fast & Furious," "Iron Man 3" and "Point Break."

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department asked anyone with information regarding the death to call them at 805-384-4727.
