Man Stabbed With Screwdriver in Whittier, Suspect Arrested

The suspect was in a vehicle and got out to stab the victim in the foot and the shoulder/arm area, authorities said.

A man was stabbed with a screwdriver Saturday in unincorporated Whittier and a suspect was later arrested during a perimeter search, authorities said.

The assault was reported at 11:16 a.m. in the 1300 block of Lukay Street, according to Sgt. Dennis Pogodayev of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Norwalk station.

The suspect was in a vehicle and got out to stab the victim in the foot and the shoulder/arm area, Pogodayev said.

The suspect fled on foot and the sheriff's department sealed off a perimeter, the sergeant said. A sheriff's helicopter spotted the suspect running and he was arrested within two hours of the attack. He was booked for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of injuries not believed serious, Pogodayev said.
