Man Suspected of Shooting Woman on Santa Monica Pier In Custody

A 20-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man on probation for drug and weapons offenses was identified Thursday as the suspect in a shooting on the Santa Monica Pier last week in which a woman was wounded.

The shooting was reported about 6 a.m. on Aug. 23 near the west end of the pier, Sgt. Rudy Flores of the Santa Monica Police Department said. The victim, in her 20s, was taken to a hospital, where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and released.

Ivan Galiano, who is on probation in Los Angeles County, was subsequently identified as the alleged gunman by Santa Monica police detectives, who learned that Upland police had taken him into custody about 6 p.m. on the day of the shooting for an unrelated crime, Flores said.

"The suspect was found in possession of ammunition at the time of the arrest," he said.

The victim initially indicated only that a male suspect, who was possibly accompanied by a female, had shot her with a handgun, but she later clammed up.

"At the hospital, the victim declined to provide additional information," Flores said.

Galiano remains in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department pending transfer to Los Angeles County sheriff's custody.
