Man Killed By Deputies During Bellflower Standoff

Woman reported boyfriend would not let her leave apartment after domestic dispute

A man was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies after barricading himself inside an apartment in Bellflower and holding his girlfriend hostage for several hours, officials said Monday afternoon.

Crisis negotiators and the SWAT team responded to the scene in the 8800 block of Artesia Boulevard, around 5:30 a.m.

The man was believed to be armed. Earlier reports indicated he was unarmed.

The woman called 911 around 5:30 a.m. to report a domestic dispute and said her boyfriend was not allowing her to leave the apartment.

He released her after about seven hours, but did not immediately surrender himself.

Several blocks near the standoff were blocked and a neighboring motel was evacuated. As SWAT members tried to enter the apartment, flash-bang grenades were deployed.

The man has not yet been identified.
