    Detectives were searching for a killer after he was accused of pounding a woman in the head with a hammer in East Los Angeles, authorities said Monday, Nov. 23, 2015.

    A man accused of beating his 21-year-old girlfriend to death with a hammer in East Los Angeles was arrested in Mexico, sheriff's officials announced Thursday.

    Antonio Medina, a 28-year-old transient, was wanted in the slaying of Kassandra Ochoa, whose body was found in the early hours of Nov. 21 in a vacant home in the 470 block of South Sydney Drive. Witnesses told deputies they saw him running from the scene

    Investigators received numerous tips that led them to Medina, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Medina was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and Mexican authorities in the state of Nayarit and later flown to Los Angeles.

    Medina was booked for murder and a no bail warrant for a probation violation, sheriff's deputies said.

    Ochoa's family said she had been living with the accused attacker.

    Medina was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for grand theft auto, deputies said.
