Man With Gun Killed After Search Through South LA Neighborhood: Police

A man who allegedly exchanged gunfire with police Sunday morning was killed following a more than hourlong search in South LA, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect was shot, according to an LAPD spokesman, and the wound may have been self-inflicted.

Residents of several blocks in Vermont-Slauson were asked to lock their doors and stay in their houses by LAPD shortly before 8 a.m.

Police set up a perimeter around a roughly 12-block area to search for a reported man with a gun. The warning was lifted at 9:51 a.m., when the LAPD reported the suspect was in custody.

A spokesman later clarified that the suspect had been shot.
