Sketch Released of Shooter Wanted in Slaying of Security Guard in Marina del Rey

Patrick Odoikyene’s slaying is the first homicide in the upscale town since 2007.

A sketch was released Tuesday of a shooter who killed an on-duty security guard at an apartment complex in the seaside community of Marina del Rey.

The body of Patrick Odoikyene, 47, of South Los Angeles, was found Monday morning on the ground between two cars in the parking lot of the Shores apartments (map). He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A composite sketch of the gunman, described as a black male in his late 30s to mid 40s, about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a stocky, muscular build, shaved head, goatee and a medium complexion, was released Tuesday in the hope of generating leads, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said the shooter should be considered armed and dangerous.

He was last seen running from the scene of Odoikyene’s death toward Dell Alley and the 3400 block of Via Dolce Street, authorities said.

Residents said Odoikyene had moved to South LA from Ghana. They described the victim as well-liked around the complex.

"He was so jovial and friendly," resident Lynn Reynolds said of Odoikyene, pictured below. "He couldn't do enough for you. Just a nice big guy, lovable guy."

Odoikyene’s slaying is the first homicide in the upscale town since 2007.
