Meet the Rushmore Presidents, Eat Cherry Pie in Yorba Linda

Join the Presidents Day tradition at the Nixon Library.

What to Know

  • Monday, Feb. 18
  • Nixon Library
  • Free cherry pie slice for the first 1,000 people

Getting a close-up moment with the U.S. presidential icons seen on Mount Rushmore?

It's widely known that they sit quite high in the sky, or at least their carved-in-stone visages do.

Which means that enjoying a face-to-face with Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, or Teddy Roosevelt would require you to flutter by, on wings of some sort, which probably isn't the wisest notion.

But far easier than sporting wings, and far closer than South Dakota, and a snap to do, if you're looking to observe Presidents Day 2019?

Simply visit the the Nixon Library, where a quartet of Rushmore-iconic Commanders in Chief, or at least president-playing performers, will say hello, and pose for photographs, all while wearing the historic attire we've seen in so many portraits.

Admission is half-off, too, at the Yorba Linda landmark, on Monday, Feb. 18.

One thing to keep in mind?

For sure, there will be free cherry pie, a favorite treat of this yearly event, but you'll want to be one of the first 1,000 people to snag a slice. (Polly's Pies is behind the gooey gratis goodies.)

But will Washington enjoy a slice? That particular president is, after all, much associated with the cherry, thanks to legend, lore, and the childhood schoolbooks of yore.

Opening time on Feb. 18 is 10 a.m., but stick around for 1 o'clock, then make for the White House East Room for a "special meet the Presidents program."
