Memorial Service Held for Greg Plitt

A memorial service was held Saturday afternoon for actor and fitness guru Greg Plitt, who was struck by a Metrolink train in Burbank while filming near the tracks last weekend.

The service for Plitt, 37, was held at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills. Another service will be on Thursday, Jan. 29 in his hometown of Baltimore, according to Plitt's website.

Mike Glass, who attended the Beverly Hills service, said Plitt had "all the ingredients of a world champion."

"The funny thing about it is he never entered a show, never competed, yet managed to get on 240 covers of the greatest fitness magazines in the world," Glass said. "He was the quintessential new Jack LaLanne of this era."

Plitt was struck and killed by a train while shooting a promotion for one of his sponsors last Saturday, police said. He was running between the rail tracks when the train caught up with him.

"We are devastated over the loss of our son," Plitt's family posted on his website. "Your messages have uplifted us and give us strength. We thank you for that. Greg's soul is now with our heavenly Father. May his spirit live on through his website and through each of you."

According to police, Plitt did not tell those with him that he would run along the railroad ahead of the oncoming train.

Metrolink officials said Plitt did not have permits to film alongside the tracks.

The Burbank actor and fitness expert was a former Army Ranger and Calvin Klein model, who had been featured in a Bravo TV series titled "Work Out'' and on the daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives." He appeared in films including "Terminator Salvation," "Grudge Match" and "The Watchmen."
