Metro Expo Line Services to Resume Saturday at Downtown Los Angeles Stations

Metro announced Monday that two Expo Line stations in downtown Los Angeles, which have been closed for about two months due to construction work, will reopen to the public on Saturday.

The Pico and 7th St/Metro Center stations have been closed since June 22 as part of the northern segment of the New Blue Improvements Project.

The 856-bus shuttle that has been servicing those stations will discontinue service when trains resume service at the regularly scheduled time on Saturday morning.

"The reopening of the two Expo Line stations in downtown Los Angeles is a step forward as we strive to complete the New Blue Improvements Project," Metro Board Chair James Butts said. "I want to thank the Expo Line riders for their patience during this construction process."

The Blue Line is undergoing a $350 million modernization project that began in January to improve reliability, enhance safety and improve the customer experience, according to Metro. The Expo Line and Blue Line share tracks downtown, and part of the work was to replace tracks at the junction of the two rail lines at Washington Boulevard and Flower Street.

"Metro's State of Good Repair program is important to keep our trains, buses, stations and facilities in top-notch condition, and this New Blue project is a perfect example of this endeavor," said Metro CEO Phillip Washington.

The Blue Line's northern segment continues to be out of service, with Metro expecting work to be completed this fall. The southern section of the New Blue Improvements Project was completed on June 1 and marked the halfway point of the project.
