Monterey Park Police K-9 Stung by Bees Goes Home

Robin, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, has been a police dog for four months and was praised for nabbing the burglar despite just being stung by dozens of bees

A police K-9 who was stung by bees as she chased burglars, and still ended up catching one of them, went home over the weekend after recovering at an animal hospital.

"K-9 Robin is going home! After a week of uncertainty K-9 Robin went home today," Monterey Park police said Sunday. "Robin and her K-9 handler are at home celebrating her return."

Robin, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, has been a police dog for four months and was praised for nabbing the burglar despite just being stung by dozens of bees on May 13.

"The fact that she was stung by more than 60 is amazing, and the fact that she continued doing her job despite that is even more amazing," veterinarian Dr. Nicole Overbey said after the attack. "She's definitely a fighter."

After being stung, she went into anaphylactic shock and underwent an emergency blood transfusion.

Robin received more blood transfusions and platelet treatments, and was unable to eat on her own. But late last week, her feeding tube was removed and she began to eat.

On Sunday, Robin finally went home with her handler -- an officer who was also stung by bees. He thanked everyone for their donations and well wishes for her recovery.
