Mountain Lion Tranquilized After Knocking Down Man at Auto Body Shop

Hank Barkefelt, a worker at the auto shop, said he was surprised by the large cat. "I walked in, just a regular routine... and he knocked me down and took off," Barkefelt said.

A mountain lion was tranquilized after it hid under a truck at an auto body shop in Acton on Friday.

The California Department of Fish and Game was called just before 9 a.m. about a big cat under a truck at an auto body shop at the 400 block of Sierra Highway.

Hank Barkefelt, a worker at the auto shop, said he was surprised by the large cat. "I walked in, just a regular routine... and he knocked me down and took off," Barkefelt said. " I was lucky, very lucky."

The cat hid under a car and then walked across a street. Agents tranquilized the 75-pound mountain lion so they could safely move her and release her back to her habitat.

The mountain lion, believed to be 3 years old, is thought to have come down during the night, according to Janice Mackey of the California Department of Fish and Game.
