Dapper Day, the twice-a-year dress-up event, is associated with Disneyland Resort, but on Friday, July 22 look for stylish vintage fans to be out at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

If you've ever visited Disneyland Resort during Dapper Day, you encountered thousands of guests in their dressiest, fedora-fabulous best.

That's because the twice-a-year event, which is organized independently of the theme park, is all about encouraging people to find a vintage outfit, or a get-up that's a bit bells-and-whistles, at least, and go a-strutting, for the fun of it (and, of course, the admiration of others).

But Dapper Day, which also takes place at the Disney parks in Orlando and Paris in addition to Anaheim, is making a move to the Miracle Mile, at least for its next gussied-up go-around. That's right, art aficionados: Dapperists will stroll about the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Friday, July 22, all in celebration of the "Reigning Men: Fashion in Menswear 1715-2015" exhibit.

The afternoon-into-evening event starts with docent tours of the togs-filled exhibit, which covers everything from the sartorial style of swinging London to modern avant garde garb, and ends with the free Friday jazz that's become a summer stable of the mid-city museum.

An "expanded dance floor" means more room for dancing in your Sunday — or rather, Friday — best.

Picnics and blankets are welcome, but food shall be for sale. Admission is required to see the menswear show, but the music, and dancing, is free.

And while you don't need to dress up, many people will seize the stylish chance to pull out their best suit or frock, one that hails from the '20s or two weeks ago. True, vintage does dominate at Dapper Day, but all elegant attire, or sassy looks, are welcome.

Where will Dapper Day head next? You can count on a Disneyland return this fall, over the first weekend of November.

But here's hoping that more museums, and spots around Southern California, will be treated to this lively, visual, and sweetly sociable gathering. Dapper Day marked its fifth anniversary in 2016, so surely it is just getting going, like a fashion trend built to last the ages.
