New Films Take Centerstage in Newport Beach

"Orange County's Largest Entertainment Event" debuts for its starry 2018 run.

IF YOU FEEL ANTICIPATION... during a movie's opening credits, what's the exact emotion that washes over you as the final credits begin to roll? It's sort of a bookend to that anticipatory sense you experienced 90 or so minutes earlier, and while "satisfaction" seems like a word that pairs nicely with "anticipation," that doesn't quite go far enough, if you really enjoyed what you just watched. Of course, that feeling you feel during the final credits might also involve needing a bathroom break, or a snack, or some sunshine, so, yes, there needs to be a whole new word that can accurately encapsulate all of that, plus the happiness of being at the cinema. NEWPORT BEACH FILM FESTIVAL: It's a star on the film festival circuit, a cinema spectacular with a deservedly out-sized reputation. And it has launched for 2018, with plans to roll the reels right through to Thursday, May 3. Coming up? So many talked-about works, including "Boundaries" with Vera Farmiga and Christopher Plummer on April 28, and "The Long Dumb Road" with Tony Revolori and Jason Mantzoukas, also on April 28. A bouquet of international films, and action sports films, and documentaries, and other treats await, so catch a few films the weekend, or go every day if you're committed to filling up on some of the newest and brightest flicks. There are culinary films, too, and those devoted to the environment; pore over the grid ASAP.
