Night of Lights at Mammoth Mountain

Fireworks, torchlight, and glimmery dazzle give the snowy destination a seasonal shimmer.

THERE'S NO NEED TO QUIBBLE ABOUT IT: Mammoth Mountain has a lot of shimmer on most days of the late fall and winter and spring, thanks to all of that glorious snow that fills the many, many runs of the busy ski destination. For snow is downright shimmery, especially on those cloudless, bluebird-pretty days, and it can reflect in a powerful fashion, giving it a glimmer that's hard to duplicate. But there's another highly glimmer-tastic sight, and it is a sight that returns to the Sierra-based spot each December. It's fireworks, a highly shimmery thing, and just the sort of night-sky experience starts the holidays in a memorable manner. Pyrotechnics will again kick off Mammoth's merriest time of year on Saturday, Dec. 16 when...

NIGHT OF LIGHTS... returns to the Canyon Lodge area. Southern California Ford Dealers is the host, and a happy line-up of cameos and to-dos will fill the frosty night. Yep, Woolly will be there, and fans of the mammothly cute mascot can stop for a photograph. There shall be live music, too, and snowmobile rides, and a torchlight parade, and those aforementioned, sky-big fireworks. And will Santa be there, too? You bet. True, he's going to get mighty busy soon, but he always has time to stop by Mammoth and say howdy to his ski-loving friends, and his pal Woolly, too.
