Oak Glen's Apple Season Is Ripe and Ready

Labor Day Weekend is the traditional seasonal start time for several orchards and activities in the apple-rich region.

WHEN IS SUMMER NOT SUMMER? September is mostly made of the stuff of summer, it is true, or at least that can be accurately said about the bulk of the month. For the equinox doesn't roll into view before the last third of September arrives, meaning, basically, we're still summering even as the signs of autumns are in full sprout. And one of the big Southern California signs of fall arrives in summer, over Labor Day Weekend, each and every year. It's when Apple Season opens around Oak Glen, one of region's juiciest, core-coolest go-tos for apple-picking, cider-sipping, and fall-fancy delights.

TRUE, the weather may still be warm-ish in early September, but local orchards around the hill-pretty area will begin offering u-pick opportunities and other apple-centered pleasures. The one recommendation? You'd never nibble an apple too close to its core without checking for seeds first, and you'd never drive out to an orchard without checking its hours and details, surely. Surely? Good. So gather up your pomme-loving pals and plot your orchard-based itinerary through the Yucaipa-close apple wonderland now. Set to open over Labor Day Weekend 2018?

WILLOWBROOK APPLE FARM, which invites weekend visitors to "(c)ome press delicious apple cider," while the u-pick fun just revved up, a fortnight ahead of Labor Day, at Riley's Farm. And over at Snow-Line Orchard and Winery? The season starts on Sept. 1, the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend; look for apple-yum goodies and the Rib Shack, which will pop up every weekend through Oct. 22. More details? Visit the individual sites for area orchards and businesses or call upon the main page for Oak Glen.
