Two people were killed Saturday in a chain-reaction crash on the southbound 57 Freeway in Diamond Bar.
The first crash was reported at 2:55 a.m., just south of Diamond Bar Boulevard, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi. No injuries were reported in the initial crash, but the driver of a black car then slammed into a tow truck that responded to remove one of the damaged vehicles.
The driver and passenger in the black car were ejected and killed.
The car came to a stop in the middle of the freeway. Another driver in a green truck stopped to help and was standing outside the vehicle on the shoulder of the road when a white truck crashed into both the green truck and black car.
The driver of the white truck was hospitalized in critical condition.
The driver of the disabled vehicle said his car was struck, possibly by a DUI driver. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and attempting to confirm whether alcohol was involved.
No other injuries were reported. Debris was scattered throughout the roadway early Friday.
