One Killed, One Wounded in Compton Shooting

Sheriff's detectives were investigating the shooting death of a man Sunday in Compton, authorities said.

The Compton sheriff's station received a call at about 1:35 p.m. of two gunshot victims in the 2000 block of North Parmelee Avenue, Deputy Marvin Crowder of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said.

"Once deputies arrived they discovered that both victims were taken by family members to a nearby hospital," Crowder said.

One man died at the hospital, Crowder said. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. The other victim had stable vital signs and was expected to survive, the deputy said.

The suspects were described as three men, ages 20-25, wearing dark clothing, Crowder said. They fled the scene in an unknown direction and their vehicle description was not available.

Anyone with information on this shooting was asked to call the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
