The owner of a Granada Hills mansion where rapper Kid Cali was fatally shot during a summer pool party has been charged with misdemeanor land use violation, officials said Tuesday.
It was in August that the 30-year-old rapper, Justin Lishey, was shot to death while attending an illegal house party in Granada Hills. The homeowner, Edith Kafui Augustt, rented the 6,500-square-foot house on Longacre Avenue to a party promoter who advertised on social media and charged up to $50 a person.
Los Angeles City Attorney's office filed the charge against Augustt.
The LAPD hopes the case serves as a warning to both homeowners and party organizers.
"To those who would want to throw illegal house parties, No. 1 we're going to catch you, No. 2 we're going to cite you, No. 3 we're going to have charges filed against you," LAPD Capt. Brian Pratt said.
The LAPD says it's possible the party promoter could also be charged in this case.
Inglewood resident Kenny Birdine was charged in connection with the slaying.
