Hiker Dies in Pacific Palisades

The man has been identified as James Duncan, 52.

A man hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains Sunday in Pacific Palisades collapsed and died, authorities said.

The man has been identified as 52-year-old James Duncan of Porter Ranch.

Duncan was on a remote trail off East Topanga Fire Road near Topanga State Park about 3:45 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

The fire department sent in paramedics who started CPR efforts to try and bring back the non-breathing and pulseless man, but those efforts failed, Humphrey said.

Duncan's autopsy is pending.
