Palm Desert Woman Raises Funds for Tornado Victims

Lisa Marquez lives in Palm Desert, Calif. but calls Hackleburg, Alabama home – a town totally destroyed by tornadoes on Wednesday.

Hackleburg officials said 27 people were confirmed dead and the FBI are still searching for 11 people after massive tornadoes ravaged six states in the South this week. Officials said they need everything from body bags to portable showers.

"My dad's side of the family are all down there," Marquez said.

Marquez's grandmother and aunts homes were wiped out and all but one of her relatives lost their homes.

She has aunts and uncles in the small town of about 1,500 people that she still hasn’t heard from.

Instead of waiting for things to get better, Marquez is on a mission to help her relatives and others who live in the small communities affected by the storm.

Using Twitter, Facebook and texting, Marquez hopes to organize a community fundraiser in California for tornado victims and to help the small towns effected by the devastating storms.

Marquez says that Anyone who wants to help support her drive are encouraged to make donations to the Riverside Red Cross.
