Boy Allegedly Bound and Tortured; Mother, Her Boyfriend Arrested

Other children at the home were taken into protective custody.

Detectives arrested a Palmdale mother and her boyfriend Thursday after discovering an 8-year-old boy with critical injuries that suggested he was bound and tortured, authorities said.

The boyfriend, Isauro Aguirre, 32, told detectives he caused injuries to the boy including a skull fracture, several broken ribs and burns, according to a Los Angeles County sheriff's statement. The mother, Pearl Fernandez, 29, told detectives she witnessed the attack but did not intervene, the statement said.

Aguirre was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and was being held on $1 million bail. Fernandez was booked on suspicion of felony child abuse and was being held on $100,000 bail.

Deputies found the boy late Wednesday. He was not breathing when deputies arrived, according to the Sheriff's Department.

He was hospitalized in critical condition early Thursday.

The boy resided at the Palmdale home with his mother, her boyfriend and his two siblings, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies responded to the home Wednesday, just before midnight.

The Department of Children and Family Services has taken the boy's siblings -- ages 10 and 13 --  into protective custody.
