Perfect Storm for Traffic Nightmare Brewing in LA on Saturday

Anyone planning to be on Southern California roads this weekend should consider planning ahead and leaving early, with a series of potentially traffic-snarling events on tap – highlighted by a 6 1/2-hour visit by President Barack Obama.

Obama is schedule to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport at 1 p.m. Saturday, and he will attend at least three fundraising events, two at the exclusive homes of key supporters and one concert in Pacific Palisades.

Although the president generally travels by helicopter to and from the actual airport, his motorcade will likely force rolling closures of streets in West Los Angeles, Brentwood and Pacific Palisades. Obama is scheduled to depart from LAX about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, JPL will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Pasadena. That’s followed by a Saturday night soccer match between the United States and Mexico, which is expected to draw more than 90,000 fans to the Rose Bowl. The match begins at 6 p.m.

Also beginning around 6 p.m. will be Game 2 of the National League Division Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets at Dodger Stadium.

And at 7 p.m., the Zac Brown Band will perform at the Hollywood Bowl.

The traffic tie-ups continue Sunday when thousands of people take part in AIDS Walk Los Angeles in West Hollywood.
