High-Speed Pursuit in Orange County Ends With Crash Into Big Rig

The suspects appeared to be streaming live video of the pursuit, police said

Three people were taken into custody Thursday after leading Santa Ana police on a pursuit throughout Orange County that the suspects apparently live-streamed on social media.

The chase began at approximately 11 p.m. The erratic driver was on multiple freeways and surface streets at high speeds during the pursuit.

The vehicle collided with one car and fled the scene in a hit-and-run crash. About 20 minutes after the initial crash, the car collided with a semi-trailer truck at an intersection in Costa Mesa.

Two of three occupants in the pursuit attempted to flee the scene before police apprehended them.

Based on the location of a phone in the front seat, police said it appears one of the occupants was live streaming the pursuit on Instagram. The device was still streaming live when officers arrived, police said.

All three of the occupants are documented gang members, police added. They were arrested on suspicion of attempted carjacking, evading police, participating in a criminal street gang, hit-and-run with property damage and obstructing or delay a police officers. Details about the attempted carjacking were not immediately available, but authorities said it occurred after the crash.
