Police arrested the driver of a Volkswagen SUV who was suspected of trying to ram a Los Angeles Police Department officer before a chase Wednesday night in the northeast Los Angeles area.
The chase began after police said the driver tried to hit an officer who was outside of a patrol car. The officer was not injured.
The erratic driver mostly circled the Silver Lake area, drove on the wrong side of the road, cut off pedestrians in a crosswalk, and swerved around bicyclists by weaving into opposing lanes of traffic.
The driver alternated between sidestreets and freeways in the neighborhood northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
Officers caught up to the man in the area of Fletcher and Riverside drives in Silver Lake where the man fled the SUV on foot and was taken into custody.
The driver was possibly wanted for assault with a deadly weapon.
