Arrest at Auto Zone Ends Erratic Motorcycle Police Chase

A dangerous motorcycle chase ended at an East Los Angeles auto repair shop Wednesday afternoon with the driver in handcuffs.

LAPD officials said the motorcycle had been reported stolen and the rider was wanted for reckless driving and failure to yield.

After running through red lights and narrowly missing several vehicles on surface streets, the driver brought police onto the northbound 101 Freeway toward Calabasas.

Two squad cars sandwiched the motorcyclist, weaving ahead of him trying to block his path, but the driver slipped away from the officers.

The chase alternated between surface streets and freeways.

The driver lead police to an East LA neighborhood where he ditched his motorcycle in the 9800 block of Percy Street, ran into a home and then out again. He was caught at a nearby Auto Zone at 3801 Whittier Boulevard.

The chase began in the San Fernando Valley when police tried to pull over the motorcyclist for wreckless driving, LAPD Officer Nuria Vanegas said.
