Driver Leads Deputies on Pursuit, Crashes Into Car

Sheriff's deputies pursued a driver in South Los Angeles Monday night through several cities and across surface streets and some freeway miles.

A suspected DUI driver in a red minivan led deputies on a pursuit that was alternately high- and low-speed throughout the South LA area.

Speeding down Rosecrans Avenue, the driver ran through a red light and crashed into a red Jeep that was sent into a pole.

The suspect drove the van into a tree after the impact and was pulled from the vehicle and arrested.

"I hear the sound, all I hear is a big explosion, like a boom," witness Angel Cobenes said, "I looked outside and right away the cops (are) pounding on the doors trying to get the guys out."

"I seen a lady driving a van... like she was trying to get away from the cops," another witness JD said, "She struck another vehicle and crashed into the wall over there."

The crashes happened near Rosecrans and Budlong avenues in Gardena.

Aerial footage showed the driver of the Jeep being led away from the crash around 9:35 p.m. She was evaluated by paramedics and appeared to be transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

More than a dozen sheriff's cars were at the intersection of the crash in the investigation immediately following the collision.
