Police arrested a man early Sunday morning after he fired a gun during a slow-speed pursuit and began an hours-long standoff in Santa Ana.
Jimmy Hoang, 28, of Santa Ana was booked on numerous felony charges, including: Murder attempt on a police officer, a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and felony evading.
The pursuit started around 7:30 p.m. when Santa Ana officers tried to pull a car over for a traffic violation at McFadden Avenue and Euclid streets, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
Santa Ana police pursued the driver for about two hours until he stopped at Fifth and Euclid streets with tires flattened by spike strips. During the pursuit, the Truong fired multiple shots, police said.
Police said Truong threatened officers with his weapon and expressed he wanted to commit suicide.
After a three hour standoff, Truong surrendered with the help of a SWAT team and hostage negotiators.
The standoff ended around 2:45 a.m. when the driver exited the vehicle with no incident, Santa Ana police said.
