A man was caught on video attempting to rape an 18-year-old woman in El Monte on Feb. 16, and police Tuesday released a sketch of the attacker.

The man is described as a 30 to 40-year-old man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 190 pounds and last seen wearing a long sleeve blue shirt, according to police.

"We would be concerned about this happening to someone else or that the level of violence would increase and again we don’t want anyone, male or female or kids to be at risk at any time," El Monte Police Department Sgt. Richard Luna said.

A video of the incident was caught on home security cameras.

The woman was walking home from work near the intersections of Tyler Avenue and Brockway Street.

The victim and the attacker cross paths on the sidewalk. The man then turned around and started following the woman before tackling her to the ground.

The man is then seen dragging the woman around the corner out of sight of the businesses and homes in the area.

The woman was able to fight off the man as he tried to sexually assault her, police say.

A camera at a restaurant in front of the sidewalk where the incident occurred caught the man running after the woman. It also filmed what police believe is the white, possibly four-door compact car the the man may have been seen driving away in.

The attacker ran away from the scene when the woman began to scream for help and for neighbors to call 911.

The victim suffered minor injuries, but police say she's doing better and helping with the investigation.

The crime has put a lot of people on alert in the local community. Residents said they hope the man is caught before someone else is hurt.
