Porto's Treats: Headed for Century City

Buy some of your favorite sweets while visiting the Annenberg Space for Photography.

What's the first thing you do when you learn that Porto's Bakery & Cafe is showing up in a new city?

You share the good news with all of your friends and relatives and potato ball-obsessed co-workers. You drive by the still-to-come location, daydreaming of the classic Cuban cuisine that Porto's is known for around the region. And you picture yourself, in the future, sitting at a table, digging into a Cubano sandwich and guava pastry.

With that prelude, there's great news ahead for Porto's people around Century City: You'll be able to find some of your favorite desserts for the next six months nearby.

But a big note to keep in mind: It won't be a restaurant situation, nor will there be that famous glass case of goodies that's synonymous with the much-loved SoCal staple.

Rather, you'll be able to buy freshly baked, freshly delivered, pre-packaged Porto's treats at the Annenberg Space for Photography during the "Cuba Is" photograph exhibition. It's a "cooperation" between the restaurant and the museum, per a Porto's representative.

Those luscious snacks will include raspberry besitos and some guava-filled specialties, among other tasties.

Will Cubano sandwiches and potato balls be available at Doña Dulce, the Porto's "pop-up" inside the Annenberg? They will not, nor will the other savory dishes the restaurant group is known for.

But if you want something flaky and doughy, a classic Porto's confection, after wandering through the exhibition, your yearning will be met.

"Cuba Is," which will include over 120 photos looking at "...the complexities of Cuban life both on and off the island," will be on display at the Annenberg Space for Photography through March 4, 2018.
