Pursuit Driver Strikes Cyclist, Crashes Into Venice Wurstküche

Two people dining in the restaurant were hospitalized, and the driver was arrested

A driver involved in a pursuit struck a cyclist Sunday night before crashing a pickup into a Venice restaurant.

The driver, identified by police as a parolee, was arrested. The cyclist was hospitalized with a broken leg, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The pursuit began when police noticed the driver of a white Ford pickup driving in a "reckless manner" at Venice Boulevard and Speedway (map), about one block from Venice Beach. The driver failed to stop for officers, who followed the truck east toward Lincoln Boulevard.

The cyclist was struck at Lincoln Boulevard and Brooks Avenue. The pursuit continued on Lincoln Boulevard before the driver crashed into a restaurant at Vernon Avenue.

Two customers dining in the Wurstküche restaurant were hospitalized. Details regarding their injuries were not immediately available.

The driver also was hospitalized.

Lincoln Boulevard was closed for the investigation, but the road reopened at about 6:30 a.m.
