The heaviest downpours Wednesday morning were reported in the Rancho Cucamonga area.

"We'll have some scattered showers this morning. Most areas will see sunbreaks by 11 a.m., but with those sunbreaks come the chance of thunderstorms," said NBC4 forecaster Byron Miranda.

Several solo-vehicle crashes were reported early Wednesday. Two crashes on the 110 Freeway slowed traffic near downtown Los Angeles.

Extended periods of snow are possible in Wrightwood and Big Bear. Expect temperatures in the low-60s and high-50s for most of the region.

Skies are forecast to clear Thursday and Friday before wet conditions return during the weekend.

The storm arrived as post-holiday travel began at LAX and other Southern California airports. Severe weather in the nation's midsection and South might cause travel delays.

The travel website flightStats.com reported 372 flights were canceled as of Wednesday morning, and 311 delayed. The cancellations were mostly spread around airports that had been or soon would be in the path of the storm.
