A firefighter went beyond the usual call of duty Saturday morning and delivered his own baby girl in the front seat of his truck just in time for Mother's Day.
Jeremy Roberts, a fire engineer for the City of Riverside Fire Department, was driving his wife to the hospital in Menifee when the couple realized their baby had other plans.
"We were about two miles away from our exit and her water broke," Roberts said.
That's when the Roberts' quick actions as a firefighter and the training he received as a paramedic kicked in. He pulled over near Scott and Antelope roads and flagged down an ambulance for help.
"We definitely panicked... but it was the only option at that point," said Roberts. "When it's your own family, a natural instinct kicks in to do what you've been trained to do."
With help of paramedics, the 32-year-old firefighter delivered the couple's second child in the front seat of his truck.
While Roberts said the experience was stressful, he called this the most unique and "special" call of his career. "I'm still in disbelief," he said.

The couple's newborn girl, Adeline Roberts, weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and measured 20 inches long.
The mother and baby are healthy and recovering at Loma Linda Hospital in Menifee. They are expected to be discharged on Mother's Day.
