Riverside County Woman Killed in Ice Caves Collapse

A Riverside County woman was killed when ice and rock fell inside ice caves in Washington state.

The Snohomish County sheriff's office said Thursday that medical examiners identified a 34-year-old hiker killed as Anna L. Santana of Moreno Valley.

Lt. Monte Beaton said in a statement that Santana died of blunt force injuries to the head and torso. Her death was ruled an accident.

Five others were hurt Monday afternoon when the Big Four Ice Caves partially collapsed.

Two remain hospitalized at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Thursday. Hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg says a 25-year-old man is in critical condition in intensive care while a 35-year-old man is satisfactory condition.

Thousands of people each year take the one-mile hike to view the snow and ice formation about 70 miles northeast of Seattle.
