Homeowners Receive Approval to Continue Controverisal Halloween Light Show

Those wishing to watch the light display can watch the show from across the street at Orange Terrace Park in Riverside. The light display will repeat every half-hour between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

An Inland Empire home that was targeted for its controversial Halloween light display has received city approval to continue the show.

The Halloween light show on the 8000 block of Deercreek Drive in Riverside closed Sunday after Riverside Police received complaints from neighbors about the traffic and noise – the light show is accompanied by music, specifically, “Jump Around” by House of Pain.

"The resident whoever called in felt there was excessive noise and also they complained about people in the streets with cars moving and so forth... and it created a public safety issue," Riverside City Councilman Paul Davis said.

Davis has been working with the city to get a block party permit to bring the show back. A last-minute permit was issued Tuesday.

"It allows them to shut down the block and make it safe from one point to another," Davis said.

The homeowners have set up barricades and cones, a city requirement for safety reasons. The permit allows loud noise until 10 p.m. Despite receiving a permit, neighbors had to sign off on it before homeowners Mark and Melanie Betty could continue their light show.

"We’re willing to do what we need to do in order to bring this show to the community. There are so many people that haven't been able to see it," Melanie Betty said.
