Riverside Man Arrested After Intentionally Crashing SUV Into House: Police

Sheriff's officials said Craig Clayton Gurney, 63, intentionally crashed his Chevy Tahoe into a home on Villa Grove Drive

A Riverside man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon Sunday after he intentionally drove his SUV into the front of a house, Riverside County sheriff’s officials said in a statement.

Officials said Craig Clayton Gurney, 63, crashed his Chevrolet Tahoe into a home on the 16000 block of Villa Grove Drive, causing moderate damage.

No injuries were reported at the residence, sheriff’s deputies said. It is unknown whether Gurney lived in the home.

Investigators said Gurney also used his car to push a Honda Civic over an embankment at the end of the house’s driveway. It is unclear whether Gurney did this prior to running his car into the house.

After numerous attempts to contact Gurney in his residence, deputies called the department’s SWAT team along with a helicopter and K-9 officers to take him into custody.

Gurney was arrested without incident and booked into the Southwest Detention Center in Temecula for assault with a deadly weapon and felony vandalism, officials said.

If convicted on the counts, Gurney could face more than two years in prison and thousands in fines.
