Robbery Suspect Killed in East LA Deputy-Involved Shooting

Deputies responding to a robbery call Sunday at a housing complex in East Los Angeles shot and killed a suspect.

The deputy-involved shooting occurred at 2:06 a.m. in the 500 block of Colonia De Las Magnolias, Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said. A semi-automatic weapon was recovered at the scene.

Deputies arriving at the housing complex were directed by the robbery victim to some people inside the complex, who ran in different directions when the deputies tried to talk to them, said Deputy Kimberly Alexander of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

Deputies called for backup, and one arriving deputy drove through the complex and came upon a suspect walking in a courtyard, Alexander said.

"The male looked at deputies and began to run. The male fell down and as the deputies attempted to detain him, a fight ensued between the deputies and the male," she said.

"A deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck."

The wounded suspect died, Deputy Joana Warren said.

Two other men suspected of robbery remained at large, Warren said. A semi-automatic weapon was recovered at the scene.

Sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating the shooting, along with investigators from the District Attorney's Office and the Office of the Inspector General, Warren said.
