San Jose Couple Dies Scuba Diving

Two people who died scuba diving off Monterey were identified.

The scuba divers who died in the Pacific Ocean off of Monterey on Friday have been identified as a San Jose couple originally from Ukraine.

Volodymyr and Marina Butsky, 40 and 41, respectively, were found facedown in the water Friday by other divers, according to the San Jose Mercury News. They were diving off of Point Lobos State Reserve when a daughter of the couple reported them overdue, the newspaper reported.

The couple married in 1990 and moved to the United States in 1999, the newspaper reported. They lived in a condominium in East San Jose.

Volodymyr worked as a software engineer, the newspaper reported.

One of their daughters is a graduate of Valley Christian High School and is studying at the California Institute of Technology.
