Woman Armed With Knife Barricades Herself Inside RV

Authorities cleared the scene after a woman armed with a knife barricaded herself Tuesday afternoon in a motorhome in Santa Ana.

The standoff began about 3:45 p.m. in the area of Dyer Road and Pullman Street, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. Police responded to a call that a naked woman was approaching vehicles at a nearby business park.

By 1 a.m., police deemed the area safe and said the woman was no longer a threat because she fell asleep. No arrests have been made.

The street outside the RV was littered with items the woman threw out of the windows. When authorities attempted to approach the woman, she grabbed a knife and locked herself inside the vehicle.

The RV belongs to a friend of the woman, who she locked out of the vehicle. She had just got out of a mental facility two weeks before the barricade, according to police.

Although authorities cleared the area, they advised the RV owner not to attempt to get inside his motorhome until the woman is completely calm.

A crisis negotiation team was trying to coax the woman, who speaks only Farsi, into surrendering, Bertagna said.

A Farsi-speaking officer made contact with the woman as the standoff continued, he said late this afternoon.

As of 11 p.m., the woman was still barricaded in the motorhome.
