You might not know this, but pitching in to protect the environment sure can work up an appetite. Luckily, Goodwill Southern California is doing its best to feed all you environmentally-friendly do-gooders.

In celebration of Earth Day, Goodwill Southern California has teamed up with Jersey Mike's to offer free meals to anyone who donates a bag or box full of gently used or new items, including e-waste, to Goodwill. Just swing by any participating Goodwill Southern California location with donations like clothing, small household appliances and art, or e-waste like outdated or damaged electronics, then bring your receipt to Jersey Mike's to receive one regularly priced sub sandwich, a bag of chips and regular soda FREE with the purchase of any regularly priced sub.

Have we whetted your appetite yet? Then feast on this: Jersey Mike's brings East Coast-style subs straight to SoCal; freshly sliced/fresh grilled subs made “Mike’s Way” with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a signature blend of olive oil, red wine vinegar and spices, all piled high on in-store baked bread.

When it comes to giving back to the community, Jersey Mike's Subs and Goodwill Southern California are the perfect partners. In 2011, Jersey Mike's locations throughout the country raised more than $2 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 200,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes. During March 2012, Jersey Mike’s celebrated its 2nd Annual “Month of Giving,” a fundraising campaign supporting 74 local charities with a mission to help children. It all culminated in a national “Make a Difference Day” on March 28. Together with its generous customers, Jersey Mike’s raised more than $864,000 for these charities.

Since 1916, Goodwill Southern California has been "Transforming lives through the Power of Work" by placing disadvantaged individuals in sustainable employment. Additionally, Goodwill Southern California cares for the earth by reducing the need for landfills through the reuse or recycling of millions of pounds of textiles, home goods, paper products and electronics.  In 2012, Goodwill Southern California diverted 65.6 million pounds of goods from landfills and plans for zero waste management by 2016.

So celebrate Earth Day this month by supporting Goodwill Southern California, the "Power of Work" and pitch in to keep our landfills from transforming into land-fills, then enjoy a tasty meal courtesy of Jersey Mike's.

*Donations must be made by April 29 at participating Goodwill Southern California locations and all Jersey Mike's subs must be redeemed on or before May 30, 2013
