Search Continues for Missing Diver in Rancho Palos Verdes

Rebecca Weiss, 50, was reported missing on August 11

Homicide detectives continued this week to investigate the case of a diver who had gone missing after an apparent dive in a cove off Rancho Palos Verdes.

"This is horrible. She's my only daughter," Vilma Causey told NBC4 in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.

Search teams in Rancho Palos Verdes have been looking for Causey's daughter, 50-year-old Rebecca Weiss of Marina del Rey, since her husband reported her missing on Saturday.

Alan Weiss told investigators he went to the cove where the couple often went free diving after she did not return as scheduled. The cove is in a scenic are near the upscale Terranea Resort.

Weiss said he found his wife's car and her diving bag, but she was nowhere to be found.

Her brother said it's hard to believe something could have gone wrong.

"My sister is a strong swimmer, and she was wearing a wetsuit, according to my brother-in-law. So it would have to be something out of the extraordinary for something to happen to her out there," brother Bob Causey said.

Homicide detectives have interviewed Alan Weiss but say he is not considered a suspect. The case was turned from a missing person investigation to a homicide case.

Vilma Causey and other family members brought flyers to stores in the area on Wednesday, hoping someone has information about what happened.

"There has to be somebody who must have seen,"  Vilma Causey said. "This is not an isolated place. This is a resort. There should have been people."
