Car Crashes Into Culver City Church

The driver was not at the scene of the crash at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church when firefighters arrived

A car crashed into an unoccupied Culver City church early Monday, damaging a wall and prompting a search for the driver.

The car struck a tree before crashing into the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in the 11000 block of West Washington Boulevard. The car ended up on its side.

Firefighters searched the vehicle, church and neighborhood, but did not locate the driver.

"We did an exhaustive search," said Chief Chris Syverson, of the Culver City Fire Department. "We haven't found any victims."

Members of the church told NBC4 the damage was confined to the pastor's office.

"There's some significant damage, not to the church itself, but what appears to be an adjacent meeting room," Syverson said.

Boards were placed over the damaged exterior early Monday.
